It's not the cost of the class that bothers me...if they guy wants to do it for free or if he is just selling certificates like the gun shows..nothing I can do about...It's when people commit then either don't show or cancel at the last minute...

Thanks Mike...nah, not steamed anymore. Pretty much over it. It has just happened way to often lately and its gotten old..Made all the website changes..gonna have to live with them now..

At least you got a call. I had a class scheduled with 6 people and had 5 no-shows...so I teach for 5 hours for $65.00.

And this is why forums like this are so important to newbies such as myself. Only been in Fl. a few months and don't know all the right people yet.
References and name recognition do count. Pity the fool that doesn't know who he is signing up to learn from.

it happens to all of us.

People are willing to cut corners to save money an d will abandon you in an instant. I had a customer earlier this year that I gave a $40,000 quote to. His response - "I thought I could do that for $1,000". Yeah right - I'm going to work for 12+ weeks on a project and only get paid $1,000?

Another customer finally finished paying me last week for work I did in January.

I don't need the side work that bad. I am considered the foremost expert in my field world wide and I'm going to get paid that way or I'm not going to do the work. If I do the work I often demand a deposit up front.

I get that all the time, people think I can do permit drawings for a building for pocket change. They must think I do hundreds of them a week, or that I like living in extreme poverty.

I'm considering requiring a deposit or requiring my fees be placed in an escrow account before I begin work, since too many clients simply don't or won't pay these days.
